New Zealand Discovery - 12 night itinerary


Day 01 Arrive Auckland, New Zealand
Arrive Auckland International Airport
Meet & Greet with Documents on arrival then transfer by private car and
driver from the airport to the hotel.  Normal check in time applies.
Enjoy a 2 hours sailing excursion on the harbour on an ex-America’s Cup
yacht then ride the SkyTower to enjoy the panoramic views across the city
and two harbours that surround it.
Accommodation: Rendezvous Grand Hotel Auckland (1 Night) Deluxe Room


Day 02 Auckland/Waitomo/Farmstay
This morning collect a Toyota Camry or similar 2-2.4 litre automatic rental
vehicle then drive south through the Waikato Valley to the Waitomo Caves

Journey down through the spectacular
spiral entrance, and marvel at the softly 
folding shawl-like limestone formations 
and crystal tapestries. Hear the distant
thunder of the subterranean waterfalls 
and get up close to the glow-worms.
From here drive to your farmstay and 
enjoy a tour of the farm and share the
evening meal with your hosts.

Day 03 Farmstay/Rotorua
After breakfast with your hosts drive to
the thermal wonderland of Rotorua.
This evening experience the warmth
of the Maori people during an evening
of ceremonial rituals, powerful cultural performance, storytelling & hangi
(dinner) feasting!

Day 03 Farmstay/Rotorua
After breakfast with your hosts drive to
the thermal wonderland of Rotorua.

Day 04 Rotorua
Today visit Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland and walk through this unique
geothermal area – see the the Champagne Pool, coloured hot and cold springs,
steaming ground, expansive vistas, huge volcanic craters and the largest mineral
terrace formation in the Southern Hemisphere.  The nearby are the ever active
“Boiling Mud Pool” and the Lady Knox Geyser plays at 10.15am daily (with a
little help from her friends). Also included is admission to Rainbow Springs
Wildlife Park where the Rainbow Trout swim freely in crystal clear streams. 
See native birds including the Kea and nocturnal kiwi as well as the Tuatara
lizards.  Take a behind the scenes look at the kiwi conservation project which
is breeding kiwi chicks until they can be safely released back into the wild.
No visit to Rotorua is complete without enjoying the unique experience of
bathing in the world famous hot springs at the Polynesian Spa. Dissolve your
tensions away in four natural rock pools of varying temperatures set in a beautiful
garden setting on the edge of Lake Rotorua. 


Day 05 Rotorua/Nelson
Return rental vehicle to the Rotorua Airport depot then fly to Nelson (airfare not
included). Collect a Toyota Camry or similar automatic rental vehicle then the
remainder of the day is free to explore.

Day 06 Abel Tasman National Park
Drive around the Tasman Bay to the small settlement of Kaiteriteri.  Embark on

a scenic cruise around the
golden bays on the turquoise
water to Bark Bay then
disembark to enjoy a self
guided walk (3.5 – 4 hours)
through the regenerating
native bush with views of the
coast along the way. 
Rejoin the boat and return to
Packed lunch included (L)

Day 07 Nelson/Punakaiki
Travel south through the Buller
Gorge following the Buller
River to the West Coast then
continue on into the Paparoa National Park, famous for the unusual Pancake Rocks
and Blow-Hole.

Day 08 Punakaiki/Fox Glacier
This morning enjoy a short train ride through the primeval rainforest and towering
limestone cliffs of the Nile River Canyon.  Dressed in a wetsuit, cross the river with
your inner tube then walk up the 129 steps to the entrance of the enormous Nile River

Cave System where you meander
through a calcitic paradise of
stalactites and stalagmites in the
upper dry levels of the cave.  In the
lower active levels of the Cave,
meet up with a slow moving
underground river on which you
float in your inner tube using only
the natural light of a simply awe
inspiring display of glow worms for
navigation. Emerge from the cave
into a remote and untouched world
before leaving its tranquillity for the
rushing bubbling waters of the low
grade Nile River Rapids which you
float down using your gloved hands for steering. This afternoon drive down the scenic
coastline through the towns of Greymouth and Hokitika to Fox Glacier.

Day 09 Fox Glacier

Join an informative and leisurely guided 2 hour walk to the dynamic face of the Fox
Glacier, where the Fox River emerges from the ice and collapses are often heard and

Day 10 Fox Glacier/Queenstown


Today drive through the ever-changing scenery of native
rainforest, bush-fringed lakes, crystal clear mountain streams
and wild beaches into the rugged beauty of the Haast Pass
as you cross the Southern Alps mountain range once more.
Travel around the shores of glacial Lakes Hawea and
Wanaka into the lakeside resort of Queenstown.

Day 11 Queenstown

This morning join a Dart River Wilderness Safari - depart Glenorchy for a jetboat ride up

the Dart River deep into the
Mt Aspiring National Park learning
about the flora, fauna and history of
the area surrounded by majestic
snow-capped mountains and pristine
scenery. Enjoy a short walk through
the primitive native beech forest as
well as a 4WD tour through Paradise
then return to Queenstown where
theafternoon is free – included is
an aerial gondola ride to Bob’s Peak
where you can enjoy the panoramic
views of Queenstown, Lake Wakatipu
and the surrounding mountain ranges.

Day 12 Milford Sound Day Excursion
This morning travel by coach across the picturesque Southland countryside to Te Anau and  


into the dramatic landscape of the
Fiordland National Park to Milford
Sound.  Cruise the fiord past Mitre
Peak to the Tasman Sea enjoying
the stunning scenery of cascading
waterfalls, dense rainforest, steep
cliff faces and marine life that inhabits
these waters.  Picnic box lunch is
included and your nature guide will
give a commentary on the interesting
features of the area.
Return to Queenstown by coach. (L)


Day 13 Depart New Zealand

Return rental vehicle to the Queenstown Airport
Check in for your onward flight and depart New Zealand.

Early Check in If your flight arrives early morning your hotel room may not be ready for
immediate occupancy.  If you wish to pre-register to guarantee immediate access to your room
an extra charge applies – not included.

All Non-Smoking - all rooms are non-smoking as standard.  If passengers require a smoking room
this will need to be requested. Availability is not guaranteed.


Rental vehicle – 2012/13
When travelling by self drive rental vehicle you will need to give a credit card Security Bond at the
time the vehicle is collected (NZ$150.00), which is voided if the vehicle is returned undamaged,
on time to the pre-arranged depot with a full tank of fuel. Additional insurances are available –
please discuss with rental company when hire is initiated.
Budget Rentals have a standard excess of NZ$3000.00 + GST for which the hirer is responsible
for vehicle damage regardless of who is at fault. This excess liability can be reduced to NZ$225.00
+ GST by payment of an additional NZ$25.00 + GST of hire a day direct to Budget Rentals on
Drivers will be required to present a full and valid driver’s licence in English
Driver Licence/ Minimum Age
All drivers must be 21 years old or over and hold a current non-probationary drivers licence
(with an English translation shown on the licence) from their home county.  It you have an
international drivers permit this must be accompanied by your home country licence.  There is no
charge for additional drivers and there in no maximum age.  You must carry your drivers license
with you whenever you are driving in New Zealand
GPS units are now available with rental vehicles at extra cost – recommend pre-booking.
Pay direct.  Travel Time will be pleased to reserve these if requested - but the customer must
pay the for the unit hire direct to Budget Rentals at the time of collection. 
Costs are NZ$9.14 per day, or NZ$57.44 per week, or NZ$114.94 per month incl GST. 
If a customer returns a unit to a location that is not the same city as it was hired and that depot
is not one of the GPS participating depots, a one way fee of NZ$56.25 incl GST will be charged. 
Where continuous multiple hires are involved, the customer is to take the unit with him/her to use
with the second vehicle.  Where hires are not continuous the unit must be returned and a new unit
hired at the start of the next rental period - a one way fee applies to each hire where applicable.

personal audio guide that has been designed for self-drive tourists.   As GPS technology is used,
KRUSE® is ALSO a navigation system.  As tourists drive around New Zealand in a rental car,
KRUSE® automatically (using GPS technology) plays audio commentaries through the vehicles
stereo system as they reach specific points of interest. 
With KRUSE®, tourists gain an in-depth knowledge of the history of the towns and regions they
pass through, hear ancient Maori myths and legends, listen to stories told by the characters that
shaped our history, learn of the unique wildlife, geographical landmarks and scenic attractions
that they will see as they travel.


Cancellation Charges
Regardless of the reason, should you cancel after booking is confirmed a minimum of eur200
per booking administration charge applies. Additional charges may be imposed depending on
individual cancellation fees applied by the accommodation, sightseeing and transport operators.
